¿Are we making promises lightly?
Ecclesiastes 5:2
“Do not be rash with your mouth, And let not your heart utter anything hastily before God. For God is in heaven, and you on earth; Therefore let your words be few.”Usually, it happens that most of us approach God when we are going through problems, when we no longer give more, when we find us in the hole of danger and notice that there is no way out, however, many of us before Presence of God we use terms such as: "Lord, if you help me in this... I'm going to do this", "Lord, if you take me out of this situation, I'm going to promise to do this", "Lord, if you give me a job I assure you that I am going to do this", "If you change my spouse's life I promise to give you this ... (¿What another we remember?)
We usually do this trying to make a swap, and well, God is going to fulfill his part and He expects that you and I will be mature to fulfill the our. But... Were a promises lightly?
Definitely we have experienced what is when we owe money to a bank... credit card?, a student loan?, a home loan? or whatever... if we unfulfill the agreement we made with them, they will apply the full weight of the law (Yes, it is impossible to live in that way) to make us fulfill what we have committed.
With Lord is no exception. The Word says: "When you make a vow to God, do not delay to pay it; For He has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you have vowed"(Ecclesiastes 5: 4).
Votes lightly? Absolutly not.
The Word of God teaches us "For “who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ."(1 Corinthians 2:16). So ... Why do we have the mind of Christ? "See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is." (Ephesians 5: 15-17). We have the ability to think, analyze, measure the consequences and if we think we can then fulfill, ok, Let's commit yourself!
You know?
“… Jephthah made a vow to the Lord, and said, “If You will indeed deliver the people of Ammon into my hands, then it will be that whatever comes out of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the people of Ammon, shall surely be the Lord’s, and I will offer it up as a burnt offering.” So Jephthah advanced toward the people of Ammon to fight against them, and the Lord delivered them into his hands.” (Judges 11:30-32)
“When Jephthah came to his house at Mizpah, there was his daughter, coming out to meet him with timbrels and dancing; and she was his only child. Besides her he had neither son nor daughter. 35 And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he tore his clothes, and said, “Alas, my daughter! You have brought me very low! You are among those who trouble me! For I have given my word to the Lord, and I cannot go back on it.”” (Judges 11:34-35)
Please, 'Do not let your mouth cause your flesh to sin, nor say before the messenger of God that it was an error. Why should God be angry at your excuse and destroy the work of your hands?” (Ecclesiastes 5:6).
¿Are we making promises lightly? ¿What we say?
