Should we pray to the angels or ... worship them? (Part II)
Colossians 3:17
"Whatever you say or do, do it in the name of the Lord Jesus. Give thanks to God the Father through the Lord Jesus."
"Whatever you say or do, do it in the name of the Lord Jesus. Give thanks to God the Father through the Lord Jesus."
Let's look at the answer through 3 examples of the Word of God:
1. "Manoah said to the angel of the Lord, “We ask of you, stay with us. So we may get a young goat ready for you to eat.” The angel of the Lord said to Manoah, “I will stay, but I will not eat your food. But if you get a burnt gift ready, then give it to the Lord.” For Manoah did not know that he was the angel of the Lord. Manoah said to the angel of the Lord, “What is your name? So we may honor you when your words come true.” But the angel of the Lord said to him, “Why do you ask my name? It is a name of wonder.”" (Judges 13: 15-18) ... Did the angel accept prayer or worship?
2. "The angel said to me, “Write this: ‘Those who are asked to the wedding supper of the Lamb are happy.’” And he said, “These are the true words of God.” Then I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “No! Do not worship me. I am a servant together with you and your Christian brothers who tell of their trust in Christ. Worship God. For those who speak for Jesus are led in what to say as the early preachers were led.”" (Revelation 19: 9-10) What did the angel say?
3. "It was I, John, who heard and saw these things. Then I got down at the feet of the angel who showed me these things. I was going to worship him. But he said to me, “No! You must not do that. I am a servant together with you and with your Christian brothers and the early preachers and with all those who obey the words in this Book. You must worship God!”" (Revelation 22: 8-9) Is it clear?
If we are not to pray or worship the angels, then to whom should we?
"Because of this, God lifted Jesus high above everything else. He gave Him a name that is greater than any other name. So when the name of Jesus is spoken, everyone in heaven and on earth and under the earth will bow down before Him. And every tongue will say Jesus Christ is Lord. Everyone will give honor to God the Father." (Philippians 2: 9-11) ... but "“When the time comes that you see Me again, you will ask Me no question. For sure, I tell you, My Father will give you whatever you ask in My name. Until now you have not asked for anything in My name. Ask and you will receive. Then your joy will be full." (John 16: 23-24)
