¿Doing what others do? (Part II)
Jeremiah 15:19
'So the Lord says, “If you return, then I will let you take your place again, standing before Me. And if you take out what is of worth from what is of no worth, then you will speak for Me. Let these people turn to you, but you must not turn to them.'3. King Rehoboam set aside integrity, example and sanity, and he was only able to execute bad advice to divide the kingdom! "Then King Rehoboam spoke with the leaders who had served his father Solomon while he was still alive. He said, “Tell me, how do you think I should answer these people?” They said to him, “If you will be kind to these people and please them and speak good words to them, they will be your servants forever.” But Rehoboam would not listen to the wise words of the leaders. He spoke with the young men who grew up with him and served him. He said to them, “Tell me, how do you think I should answer these people who have said to me, ‘Do not let our load be as heavy as the one your father put on us’?” The young men who grew up with him said to him, “Say this to the people who said to you, ‘Your father made our load heavy, but you make it easier for us.’ Tell them, ‘My little finger is bigger around than my father’s body! My father gave you a heavy load. I will add to your load. My father punished you with whips. But I will punish you with scorpions.’”" (2 Chronicles 10: 6-11)
4. More examples? Adam and Eve (Hear and see, Genesis 3), Samson (He saw and did what others did, Judges 14), David (He saw and executed murder, 2 Samuel 11) ...
"So watch yourself! The person who thinks he can stand against sin had better watch that he does not fall into sin." (1 Corinthians 10:12)
So the Lord advises us to "Watch yourself how you act and what you teach. Stay true to what is right. If you do, you and those who hear you will be saved from the punishment of sin." (1 Timothy 4:16)
On the other hand, friend, we must remember that you and I are children of God (Romans 8:16), the light of the world (Matthew 5:14), we are agents of change (2 Timothy 2:21), we are open letters from the living God (2 Corinthians 3: 2-4), that is, testimony to others! God has given us a higher Spirit (Daniel 6:3, 1 Corinthians 3:16), we are "... a chosen group of people. You are the King’s religious leaders. You are a holy nation. You belong to God. He has done this for you so you can tell others how God has called you out of darkness into His great light." (1 Peter 2: 9)
So why waste time watching and hearing what does not build and then we want to act as others act by distorting the purpose that has been entrusted to us? "... Let these people turn to you, but you must not turn to them." (Jeremiah 15:19b)
God bless you and have an excellent day in Christ Jesus!
