¿¿¿Shall we take Jonathan's example??? But... ¿Who was Jonathan?
2 Samuel 9:1
'Then David said, “Is there anyone left of the family of Saul, to whom I may show kindness because of Jonathan?”'For example, Jonathan. ¿Who was Jonathan? ¿Where did it come from? Moreover, David still says, 'Whom do I show mercy for Jonathan's sake?'.
The Bible teaches us that Jonathan was one of the sons of king Saul (1 Samuel 14:49) ... Let us see what characteristics denoted Jonathan:
1. ¿Cowardice? No!, He was decided!: Jonathan had no hesitation at the time of attack!: "Saul was forty years old when he began to rule. He ruled over Israel thirty-two years. Saul chose 3,000 men of Israel. There were 2,000 of them with Saul in Michmash and in the hill country of Bethel. And 1,000 were with Jonathan at Gibeah of Benjamin. But he sent away the rest of the people, each to his tent. Jonathan destroyed the place where the Philistine soldiers were in Geba, and the Philistines heard of it."(1 Samuel 13:1-3b) "One day Jonathan the son of Saul said to the young man who was carrying his battle-clothes, “Come, let us go over to the place where the Philistine soldiers are on the other side.” But he did not tell his father." (1 Samuel 14:1)
2. He trusted in the Lord and He knew that Lord gave him victory: "The soldiers of that place said to Jonathan and the one who was carrying his battle-clothes, “Come up to us and we will tell you something.” Jonathan said to the one who was carrying his battle-clothes, “Come up after me. For the Lord has given them into the hands of Israel.” Then Jonathan went up the hill on his hands and feet, with the one who was carrying his battle-clothes behind him. The soldiers fell in front of Jonathan. The young man, who was carrying his battle-clothes after him, killed them. In that first killing done by Jonathan and the man who carried his battle-clothes, about twenty men fell dead within a small piece of land." (1 Samuel 14:12-14)
3. He opposed the wrong: "Jonathan said, “My father has troubled the land. See how my eyes have become bright because I tasted a little of this honey. How much better it would be if the men had been free to eat today of the food that had belonged to those who fought against them! For not many Philistines have been killed.” They killed the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon. And the people were very tired and weak." (1 Samuel 14:29-31)
4. He knew that the Lord was backing him and Lord took it out from bad circumstances: "Saul said, “May God do this to me and more also, for you will die for sure, Jonathan.” But the people said to Saul, “Must Jonathan die, who has saved all these people of Israel? Far from it! As the Lord lives, not one hair of his head will fall to the ground. For he has worked with God this day.” So the people saved Jonathan and he did not die." (1 Samuel 14:44-45)
5. He made a covenant, agreement or contract with anyone who loved the Lord!: "When David had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan became one with the soul of David. Jonathan loved him as himself. 3 Then Jonathan made an agreement with David, because he loved him as himself. 4 Jonathan took off his long coat and gave it to David. He gave him his battle-clothes, his sword, his bow and his belt also." (1 Samuel 18:1,3-4)
(1 Samuel 19:4-7)
7. He was looking for solutions instead of giving problems: Read 1 Samuel 208. He gave a word of encouragement in times of trouble: "David saw that Saul had come out to try to kill him. David was in the desert of Ziph at Horesh. Saul’s son Jonathan went to David at Horesh and gave him strength in God. He said to him, “Do not be afraid, because my father Saul will not find you. You will be king of Israel, and I will be next to you. My father Saul knows this also.” So the two of them made an agreement before the Lord. And David stayed at Horesh, and Jonathan went home." (1 Samuel 23:15-18)
And 9. He loved his neighbor as much as himself: "How have the powerful fallen in the center of the battle! Jonathan has been killed on your high places. I am troubled because of you, my brother Jonathan. You have been very pleasing to me. Your love to me was greater than the love of women." (2 Samuel 1:25-26). Only he who has a mind twisted by evil can think something different from these last two versicles!! (To corroborate please read 1 Corinthians 6: 9-10)
¿What do you think?
God bless you and have an excellent day in Christ Jesus!
